An Invitation from Annie
Dear Poets, Witches, and Everyone in Between,
The closing poem of my new manuscript, written a decade ago, ends with this line:
“The spiral’s at hand, where we love, rule, and flower!”
When I wrote this, I had no idea it would eventually apply to a teaching space: Meter Magic Spiral! Meter Magic Spiral has flowered as if of its own accord over the past few months within Poetry Witch Community, and this beautiful blossom is holding all the knowledge, magic, and connection—and all the love–that I’ve ever wanted to bring into my teaching of meter.
Meter Magic Spiral is a supportive, organic, enchanting new kind of guided learning community, open on an ongoing basis to poets and others of many levels of experience with meter. I guide each month’s magical meter experience with the help of my talented assistant and facilitate a monthly Circle and other offerings. Although the Spiral is open to join at any time, I am reaching out to you this week because Meter Magic Spiral is designed in a six-month sequence. The first Spiral is now launching, so this is the time to join if you want to have the full experience in the order in which it was designed!
THE GIFTS OF METER
Many of you are well aware of the many gifts that meter offers. Here is how I see it:
—For poets, meter offers a priceless key to mistressing poetry’s magic through inspiration, structure, and revision. The greatest poems—even free verse poems—are, in my experience, always based in meter.
—For witches and other seekers, meter offers a profound spiritual practice for meditation, spell casting, and ritual—a core tool of shamanic and other spiritual work since the dawn of humanity.
So how does Meter Magic Spiral convey these gifts?
Participants in Meter Magic Spiral move through one Meter a month in a supportive community, under the personal guidance of my assistant and me with the help of video, written materials, and the small skilled group of poets I have personally trained, known as the Meter Keepers. The Spiral is a creative, generative space that works with your own rhythms until you meet with me for a final celebration of each month’s Meter before the wheel turns again. Meter Magic Spiral offers poets, witches, and everyone in between a spellbinding new relationship with rhythmical language, no matter how new to meter or how thoroughly metrically experienced you may be.
Is the Spiral for Me?
The Spiral’s unique design, the culmination of my teaching of Meter over so many decades, considers that Meter means different things to all of us. The Spiral will hold you, nourish you, and inspire you whether you seek creative inspiration, a basic introduction to meter, a sophisticated deepening of your existing metrical expertise, a healing personal experience, or spiritual and magical tools.
What is the Time Commitment?
The Spiral provides a low-pressure, flexible way to absorb the Meter Magic you need and and are ready for, at any time in your journey. There are numerous ways to enjoy each month’s rhythms; each Meter meets you wherever you are.
How Much Guidance is Available?
If you know my work, you will not be surprised to find that once you are in the Spiral, whenever you are ready, every resource you could need will be ready for you. The supportive community and the monthly materials will guide you. The Meter Magic Spiral membership also includes access to an exclusive new series of Meter Initiation videos I have just recorded.
The six-month sequence of Meters on which the Spiral is designed is starting now.
