A Journey Through Deep Form With Annie Finch
In this day-long intensive workshop, we will explore the multiple dimensions of a simple idea: that poetic meaning and form are inseparable. How does this approach change our ways of reading the poems we love? What does it mean for the process of inspiration and generating new work? How can it enhance the process of revising a poem? Prepare to encounter previously hidden voices and discover compelling guideposts to powerful revision, as we explore the ineffably deep structures where poems arise.
Required: Bring a notebook for writing new poetry, some loose typing-size paper and a pencil with an eraser, and at least one poem by another poet that you admire for the relation between its meaning and form. Optional: You may also bring ten typed double-spaced copies of an existing poem, in form or free verse, to share for revision guidance and discussion.
The May 16 Portland Workshop is from 10 am — 4 pm, in a private home in SE Portland. Address will be shared via email after registration.
Tea will be provided. Please bring food for a potluck lunch.
