Poet Annie Finch’s pathbreaking anthology Choice Words: Writers on Abortion (Haymarket Books, 2020) is revolutionizing the contemporary conversation about abortion by bringing in, for the first time, voices of great writers across centuries and continents. This intimate circle offers a rare chance to participate in a group reading and writing experience about abortion facilitated by Annie Finch with therapist and writer Marianela Medrano. The goal of the course is to reclaim our own voices and perspectives regarding abortion in the context of a supportive circle.
Through reading and discussion of the poems and stories in Choice Words, focused journaling, guided meditation, and deep sharing, we will aim to process the guilt, shame, confusion, and disempowerment perpetuated by the patriarchy into a self-compassionate reclamation of our life-giving power. Our aim is to facilitate a connection between reading, writing, feelings and actions, moving from trauma to wellness through collaborative and empowering exchanges. Ultimately, our circle aims to attain a transformation beyond words, as we journey via meditation and ritual into the womb of the divine feminine to find the power within.
In addition to the five two-hour classes, tuition includes optional reading and writing assignments, additional access to the zoom room to continue the conversation informally between sessions, and exclusive admission to a private discussion area reserved for this group in Annie’s online Poets & Seekers Community.
