Writing to explore the rhythms of poetry, a Poetry Workshop Retreat Day With Annie Finch, sponsored by poet Tamam Khan in San Rafael
Tamam’s Invitation:
This workshop is for writers who want to go deeper into their experience with rhythmic language, an ancient poetic path for uniting body and spirit, idea and intuition, humanity and nature; to build a repertoire of patterns and learn to track our most fertile personal rhythms. Themes Annie may consider with us:
How to “find form” in your free verse poems
The art of metrics made more understandable
What is modern formalism? “multiformalism”?
Sonnets, ghazals, chants, and other dazzling forms
How to edit a formal poem
Bring a poem to share, either one you have written or one you admire, with a poetic rhythm that speaks to you. ~ There will be time to write.
Private consultation can be arranged. Workshop fee discounted for both.
Among Annie’s many books here are two excellent resources: Measure for Measure, an Anthology of Poetic Meters and A Poet’s Ear, Handbook of Meter and form.
Lunch: There will be a 90 minute lunch break. You are welcome to bring a bag lunch or use the local restaurants during this time.
Registrar: Tamam Kahn. Further details will be provided upon registration.
