My poetry ritual theater show (yes, I believe I invented this name for what kind of show it is, because there was no name out there that fit!), called “Winter Solstice Dreams” was performed at 7 pm on December 12 in NYC at Deepak Homebase, 888 Broadway.
This unique show was a true labor of love–for me and the many other talented people involved! World-class music, costumes, direction, production, singing, and a winter solstice ritual, and poetry!–were all offered generously and passionately by nine different people purely out of love for the show and what it represents.
What does the show represent? The show brings poetry back to its roots in theater, community, spirituality, and fun, combining poetry with theater, masks, pageantry, and ritual. It represents poetry as a living art and the power of female-centered spirituality–along with beauty, craft, and collaborative theater-making. Based on the response of the NYC audience in the packed house, it was a great gift to all who encountered it!
But the show was one night only. As a writer, I feel the need to record and document and share things, so they can contribute more effectively to the culture. Also, I am committed to doing more poetry witch theater shows–hopefully ones where the performers can be paid–and I knew that a video would be an essential step. So I engaged a really great little indie film company to shoot the performance.
The video costs 1k to shoot and edit. This is where I need help! After all my expenses of taking the bus back and forth to NYC repeatedly for rehearsals, and paying for sets, goddess costume materials, and other incidentals, I am paid out in terms of how I can support the show.
That’s where you come in, and why I started this page–my own little homemade version of a kickstarter.
