Workshop Descriptions

This workshop explores the deep roots and juicy traditions of women’s literature as a way to enrich your poetry and prose, as we discuss some of the most important themes and techniques of women’s writing down the millennia. You will write your own poetry or prose that participates in these traditions and have the opportunity to share it with our group. Suggested preparation: bring a published passage of poetry or prose that makes you feel good to be a woman writer when you read it. Open to writers of all genres and levels of experience.

Annie’s workshops on craft and form meet you where you are, bringing the magic of rhythm and meter to the beat already pulsing in your poetry.  Depending on the needs and wants of the group, we may explore meter and metrical diversity, revision techniques, stanza, line, and forms such as the sonnet, ghazal, ballad, blues, or villanelle.  Annie’s goal is  always the same: to empower each poet with full sovereignty over your unique relationship with the magical vocabulary of form.

This intensive multi-day workshop offers a complete recalibration of your poetry manuscript.  The group will assess, critique, and weigh each aspect of your book-to-be including the overall theme and aim, the role of individual poems in the book, structure, title, table of contents, publishing and marketing possiblities, and much more.   Using your book-in-progress as the starting point, this workshop will take your poetry to places you may never have imagined.
